Join MCBA Wednesday, October 16th at 5th Tavern in Bloomfield Hills for our 2018 Bench and Bar event, generously sponsored by Allen-Hope & Associates. MCBA members will be joined by Judge Ronald Lowe, 35th District Court, Judge David Robinson Jr., 36th District Court and Judge Carrie Lynn Fuca, 41B District Court for a candid discussion on the state of collections and a Q&A session.   Questions to start the discussion:

  1. What can we do to make the trial itself more efficient, to reduce the number of witnesses and documentation on open account type cases?  Other states allow witness testimony by phone, is this something the court would entertain?
  2. Would an email inbox for firms to send stipulated orders and consent judgments be more efficient for the courts?
  3. To avoid unnecessary hearings and save the court time, if a consent judgment or dismissal is pending Defendant’s signature, is there a better way to adjourn an upcoming hearing?
  4. MCR 2.116(i)(1) – Is the court willing to consider granting a consent judgment based on a Defendant’s answer providing admission.
  5. Can we expedite the entry of pleadings without the need to submit original signatures?
  6. How can we promote more courts to make available its Register of Actions online?
  7. Have the Judges been given the opportunity to provide feedback regarding the new e-filing system?  What is most important for them and the courts?
